From the three-layer model to the current one<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For years it was explained as three separate layers: oil, water and mucus. Today it\u2019s understood in a more integrated way: a thin layer of oil floats on a mix of water and mucus, bound to the surface of the eye, rather than as three independent floors (tear-film model, TFOS<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
